Leadership In Your Midst?

This Harvard Business Review (HBR) article entitled “Leadership in Your Midst: Tapping the Hidden Strengths of Minority Executives” has been out for some time, but I want to revisit it today. The Center for Work-Life Policy, through its Hidden Brain Drain task force, devised a study in 2004 which examines the hidden strengths (and lives) of minority and female executives. This research was the impetus behind the HBR article, which was published in November 2005.

One of the facets of the article that drew my attention was the demographic makeup of the interviewees–the vast majority were women of color. This is one of the first instances in which women of color have taken precedence in a business study about “minorities”, excepting, of course, the Catalyst research which was focused specifically on women of color.
